One of the questions we’re asked most often is simple: Why did you start Duke IT?
The truth is, Duke IT began with a dream.
For Connor, becoming the director of his own company by the age of 30 had always been a personal goal. For years, we talked about building something of our own — a business that reflected our values, our standards, and our way of doing things. Eventually, we decided it was time to take the plunge.
Before making it official, we sat down with our friends and family. Their support and encouragement gave us the confidence that we were making the right decision. With that reassurance behind us, the next big step was choosing a name — and that turned out to be one of the hardest parts of the entire process.
How we came to the name Duke IT Ltd
We had a long list of ideas, but none of them felt quite right. One evening, while standing in our kitchen and tossing around suggestions, inspiration struck in the most unexpected way. On our fridge was Connor’s Nana Duke’s order of service — a reminder of someone who had been a huge source of support and encouragement in his life.
That’s when it clicked.
“What about Duke IT?”
It felt right immediately. Naming the company after Nana Duke wasn’t just meaningful — it made the business personal. It gave it heart. We’re incredibly proud to keep her name alive in a way that represents support, trust, and dedication — values that sit at the core of everything we do.
Why Jargon-free IT?
As for our “jargon-free IT” promise, that came naturally too.
We’ve both experienced the frustration of dealing with IT companies that hide behind technical language and complicated explanations. It can feel confusing, overwhelming, and sometimes even intentional. From day one, we knew we wanted to be different. No unnecessary jargon. No talking over our clients. Just clear, honest communication and straightforward solutions.
Duke IT was built on a dream, inspired by family, and shaped by a desire to do things better.
And this is just the beginning.
